Sleep stages are divided into two main categories: non-REM sleep and REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep, where dreams typically occur.  Over the course of the night a sleeper will cycle through the five stages of sleep a number of times with the REM stages lasting longer and longer towards morning.

Wholeness everyone.

I was looking at the books in the Lucid Dreaming Books link located above and found a book that caught my interest. The name of the book is "A course in Lucid Dreaming". i found out that it is meant to be read in conjunction with another book named "Exploring the world of Lucid Dreaming" that is not on in the Lucid Dreaming books section. I was able to find a PDF of the book (ETWOLD) and wanted to share it with the Resistance.

A few thing though:

1. I dont know who "The Toad" is. (On the first page "The Toad" implies that he/she created the ebook)

2. I bought the paperback today and from what I have read so far, the PDF is identical to the paperback.

Please in-joy this re-source.

x You guys are awe-inspiring!

I'll certainly keep you up-to-date and thanks a lot for your time and encouragement.

Last night was not so successful - had a strange sensation -the 2nd time this has happened so perhaps you can shed some light on what it is and how to prevent it?

I have a sensation of a blast of (cold) air in my face and the sensation (although it is not physical) of my neck snapping back hard and fast - like my head jolts back, this startles me out of my relaxed state and in fact the first time it was accompanied by real frenetic visuals with my opened eyes that spooked me enough to get up, put the light on and not return to sleep attempts for a day or so!

I, at first, presumed it was my astral body re-entering but since I had no memory of an exit or OBE I was kinda disappointed and pleased at the same time.......

Yeah, I may just have to hunt down those hemi-sync discs. the book I am using should have included them but as it was 2nd-hand they've gone astray.

Light and love, people. Have a great day x

Hey Rhia well I'm happy that I can assist you in the Tingly Giddy Feeling Department! Hats always a good sign :-) ...8
To answer your first question Yes Ive been able to have and O.B.E in all positions even on my Stomach..just like Mystic Fire said if you keep yourself open to the fact that there are no Conditions then you'll find that you'll soon start having results...its all about finding the "Sweet Spot" for You.. Mine is when I lay on my side.. my body is accustomed to that position so it goes into Sleep Paralysis mode pretty fast its like Muscle Memory.. Your body remember certain movements and breathing patterns that let it know when its time to rest ..all you have to do is remain Consciouss throughout the process .I'm about 95% on trying from my side...I even find that when i attempt to have an O.B.E on my back I sometimes tilt my body a little bit so that I'm not square on my back a.d then it works! Lol..the body is funny acting Character...
Ok now for the straight meditation feeling as opposed to how I feel when attempting to Astral travel. Ok the reason why my body goes into meditation mode whole on my back is because of how I conditioned myself leading up to having o.b.e's I used to listen to these Hemi Sync Cds a while back when I was learning how to meditate and because of that I just simply got used to meditating everytime I was on my back ..So the feeling of meditation for me is a more energizing type feeling than when I'm trying to have and Obe. My body while meditating is filled with the light energy and that energy fuels my Visualizations. But with meditation if you actually practice enough it'll lead to actually exiting the body in a full out Obe! Your body still goes into paralysis mode but its more so about the intention..the feeling is actually the same..
When I attempt an Obe I do the same meditative process deep breathing and waiting until my body goes into Paralysis the only difference is my intention and the time of day..your body is naturally still tired after only 4 hours of sleep. When I attempting an Obe I feel the same as meditation just minus the whole feeling supremely energetic..I use the sleepiness to my advantage and just focus on my mind staying awake..now adays though I just roll right out of my body with no feeling what so ever its like one minute I'm laying there and then the next minute I'm feeling a rolling sensation of me falling out of my body..
And wow you were so close to having an Obe if the room started to light up just remember you Must Keep your breath under control remain calm as if you were expecting everything to happen ..you're SO Close I can feel it lol...once you get used to it though you'll notice that a lot of exiting the body has to do with your breath..your body when in deep sleep has a certain breathing pattern if you can match that then your body can be tricked into thinking its sleep and thus resulting in super fast Obe exits...Just know you're gonna do it and be patient..because it will happen its just a matter of time now :-)...See you on the astral!

Okay, here's my opinion for what it might be worth.....

Try not to get caught up in 'conditions.'  Conditions are the limitations we place upon ourselves before we will allow a particular result to occur. Conditions are man-made.

Basically, if you feel as if you must lie on your back to astral travel, than you are creating a condition you must meet before astral travel will occur.

Instead, try to open yourself to the idea that there are no conditions, unless you allow them.  Lying on your back may be a condition others require of themselves because they believe it is needed, but it does not have to be a condition you require if you do not allow it.

On a side note, Kv_Three-O offered some great suggestions.  Keys are needed, especially in the beginning.  Create a ritual that will help you reach the state of mind condusive for an out-of-body experience, as he recommends.  Once you achieve astral travel, you can begin learning how to do it without the keys (Keys are also conditions in their own right, but they are necessary at first).

Good luck! Keep us informed of your progress!

x Woah, that was quick! AND I got all tingly, giddy and excitable just reading about your experience!!!!!!! hehehehehehehehehehe

Would you mind elaborating on a few of the things you said to deepen my understanding? You say It can be hours before you're able to exit through meditation, does this mean you've got a few different ways to achieve exit, one of which being through meditation? If I'm right, what is your preferred method and what's most foolproof?

You say When I feel like I'm heading off into straight meditation instead of Sleep. Could you explain the difference in feeling of these two states. I'm not a great meditator. I KNOW I must work on this before astral projection will really become a regular event but my efforts just seem sooooo fruitless. I will undertake a 3-day transcendental meditation class in November though.

Aaaaaah man, the stuff about the hypnagogic images had me chuckling to myself cos last night I became aware of how cool and mesmerising they are which I've never really done before since I don't usually even notice them where I'm soooo close to asleep and the fact of becoming aware of them made me excited and accelerated my breath so much that I was no longer relaxed!!!! Gaaaaaaaah!

Also, I think I may have been closer to an OBE than I thought as at one point the room started to get really bright but my physical eyes seemed to squint at this which startled me! One love x

Wholeness Rhia I definite feel you on lying on your back in order to astral project..I myself have had Multiple Obe's/ Astral Projections and i can count on 1 hand how many i've had while lying on my Back..I find that whenever im on my back My body goes into automatic Meditation Mode and i can be in that position for hours before im able to Exit(astral project/O.b.e) through Meditation..It takes Waaay to Long For me to Astral project that way when i Wake up in the Middle of the Night between 4:45 to 5:30 while trying to Have an O.B.E. I prefer Laying on my side. this works for Me but may not work for others but it seems like you're having the same issue i had when i first started as well so i hope this info will be useful for you ok here we go!

This is what i did to Remedy that situation. I lay on my back For a while after waking up in the Middle of the night. Now  after 45 mins of being semi awake not too alert but just enough to write down a dream i just had and to maybe read some literature on lucid dreaming...next i start to Concentrate on Relaxing my Body by doing deep breathing excersises in Preparation for the O.B.E then When i feel like im heading off into straight meditation instead Sleep I Slowly turn my body on my side to trick my body into thinking im about to go to Sleep. While on My Side i focused on the Third Eye Charkra Area(spot in between your Eyebrows) While my Eyes are closed of course, and simply Just Wait For the Magic to Start Happening(hypnogogic images/floating white shades meant to hypnotize you into falling asleep)..I mantian a steady Breath Not a deep one. Steady and Clam will make your body beleive its going into Paralyzed deep sleep Mode. Now all u have to do is remain Vigillant in Keeping your Focus on your Brow and waiting for the Vibrations to Pass, Next you may feel as though you're hearing Weird Sounds but its just your Energy Body Releasing itself from the Vessel(may even hear a long steady Beeping sound).

Remain Calm and Keep your breath Steady and then soon you should see the room Get brighter and brighter even though your  Physical eye's are still closed..Next Simply think get up and then just get up! without any other thought..or Just Visualize Where you're trying to Go and Really imagine you're there and then just let go. You should find your self Either out of your Body in your bedroom or Wherever you visualized you wanted to go. From there The Adventure Begins Remember While Astral Traveling its Important to keep your Emotions Nice and Level So that you Can Remain Lucid Longer!..

Hopes this Helps!

x Hi guys, I'm doing a course on astral projection. It says that the best sleeping/lying position for successful astral travel is on your back. I really struggle to sleep like this. I tried for two hours last night and it is a very unnatural for me as I usually sleep on my side (the worst position for astral travel!!!) Any suggestions? x

Hello to everybody and wholeness!!!

I am amazed by all of you!!! This is a wonderful group!!!! I wouldn't like to ask but I guess I will ask if somebody can help me with this bad dream, that I felt so real... it was awful.... I dream we live in a tall, tall building and from there we can feel how the wind moved it... and then we saw waves coming toward the city! and we were also watching that on the TV so scary... then I checked on my parents that live in the bottom floors, he was all right but my mom was with her sister & safe. My kids were on the apt. and safe next to my husband. then it was like I was in Peru and saw the waves coming to the capital. then I was in San Francisco and I saw how the G.G. bridge was coming down... then I appeared a voice said that Hawaii was supposed to be covered by then.... I wake up so scared.... if someone can help me interpretate this scary dream because it doesn't let me be the same... I'd appreciate it very much!!!

hi Sevan, many thanks for all the recordings I have been able to find on the resistance site [8/31/12 1:07:30 PM] A: I think being on this side of the world I miss the collective study chats-- I'm listening to the lucid dreaming collective study recording it. My problem is I remember actually willing myself to sleep in my teenage... I also remember teaching myself to speak in my mind- I always thought it was 'kool' when my mom would 'think aloud' but I didn't understand why she needed to speak to herself-- cause internally I knew what was needed without articulating [8/31/12 1:09:17 PM] A: and as a kid I feel like i astral travelled and saw most of my life in dreams before it manifested in life here- that is to say regular dé-ja vu experiences, I had a perfect photographic memory so school was easy [8/31/12 1:10:52 PM] A: but then I started to feel guilty cause the other students seemed to have so much trouble and I never understood how they couldn't understand, I believe this is when I started turning off those parts of my mind - besides being a freak it just seemed unfair tat I had all this access and they didn't [8/31/12 1:15:45 PM] A: well when i look back now that's how it seems... but i remember a very serious feeling of guilt from a very early age like i knew 'too much'. My will power was phenomenal... seemed like i could get anything just by desiring it... anyway by the age of 15 I moved to the US where I actually fell completely asleep. I lived there til I was 20... it was an awful experience-- but i realise that I needed to see what was the common experience-- I didn't believe in 'to err is t be human' I always thought that was a scapegoat as a child... now I see that while asleep that sentence is true [8/31/12 1:22:27 PM] A: Anyhow, this came up while listening to lucid dreaming recordings and the part where the 'silent' language' or internal impressions.... i'm able to sit in this area for longer and longer periods of time now but its not my default setting -- how do i get myself back there.
